Sunday Sermon … Mark of the True Christian (Love)

November 30th, 2008

John 13:31-35

So, this scripture is just before Jesus is crucified. Well, it’s the week of his crucifixion. Jesus is preparing his disciples for after He leaves the earth (physically).

He gives them a new command: Love each other.

He then goes on to say that by loving each other, everyone else will recognize us as Christians.

In a sense, loving each other is our trademark, or should be anyways.

Do you wear the trademark?

By the way, love is not necessarily a feeling. It is an action, a kind action. You don’t have to feel like you love someone in order to show love. If you show love to someone, it is likely that very soon, you will feel love towards them as well.

In the book of John, whenever Jesus uses the word “love,” it nearly always refers to actions, not feelings.

Love is also a great way to show nonbelievers that we really care and that our LORD really cares!

God’s love should reflect in us.

Happy Thanksgiving!

November 27th, 2008

What is Thanksgiving really about?

Well, here’s some Fun Facts.

The first Thanksgiving. Here’s an excerpt from that page…

“Historians have also recorded other ceremonies of thanks among European settlers in North America, including British colonists in Berkeley Plantation, Virginia. At this site near the Charles River in December of 1619, a group of British settlers led by Captain John Woodlief knelt in prayer and pledged “Thanksgiving” to God for their healthy arrival after a long voyage across the Atlantic. This event has been acknowledged by some scholars and writers as the official first Thanksgiving among European settlers on record.”

Alright! So, our forefathers gave thanks to God!

The proclamation for Thanksgiving.  - Again, it’s about God!

Ok, now for the scripture!

Psalm 100

It’s pretty self-explanatory.

Have a happy Thanksgiving! And don’t forget to thank God for all He’s done!

Sunday Sermon … Evil in our World

November 23rd, 2008

Ok, I should’ve said this last week…. When I post these “Sunday Sermons,” it’s just what I got out of the sermon that I listened to that day.

John 13:18-30

We are to expect evil in the world. Why? Because God does not want our faith to rattled when we face betrayal. (v. 18-19)

Evil results from spiritual warfare. (v. 27) (Rev. 12:7-9 is a good illustration of how this works.)

God permits the evil in our world, but He also edits it to work for our good. (v. 27) Why does He allow it? If He didn’t, none of would be here! He loves us and gives everyone the oppurtunity to live with Him in the paradise we call Heaven! … Also, He can use it to show His power by defeating it and twisting it for our good.

True Identity

November 20th, 2008

What’s your identity? Is it your name? Or more than that?

Let’s think about this…. You may have an ID card or a driver’s liscence. What’s on there? A name, height, weight, eye color, gender, hair color, birthdate, etc. But what does all of that really add up to?

All of that seems to just be more statistics for people to keep up with. So the question remains… What is your true identity?

I think your true identity and your legend are the same thing. They are how people perceive you. Can you control that at all? … Yes, to an extent. People develop perceptions of you based on how you behave and by what other people say about you.

In order to have any control over your true identity and legend, you must act. Act with decisiveness and act on your beliefs.

Will you be able to truly identify yourself as a Christian? (which literally means “little Christ.”) Or will your identity be something else? …. Something you may not have intended.

And your legend… Will people admire you after your gone? Or despise you? Or just simply forget about you?

It all starts with you. You decide who you are going to be, how you will be remembered.

I’ll finish with a quote I see quite a bit. … “Live your life so the preacher won’t have to lie at your funeral.” – Micah 6:8

Sunday Sermon … Cleansing Time

November 17th, 2008

Ok, I plan on doing this every Sunday… kinda late this time thouigh.

John 13:1-17

You probably know the story, but anyways…

Jesus is about to die on the cross and the day is Thursday and it’s also Passover. Jesus decides it’s time to show the full extent of His love by serving them and then dying for everyone on the next day.

To serve them, He washes their feet.

Then He gets to Peter…

Peter asks: “Lord, are you really going to wash my feet?”

Jesus’ reply: “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.” (Jesus had a lesson plan!)

Peter basically says, “no Lord, You can’t wash my feet.” (Feetwashing was normally done by the lowliest of servants.)

Jesus: “Then you have nothing to do with me.”

Peter: “Oh, Lord, give me a full bath then!!”

Jesus answered, “A person who has had a bath needs only to wash his feet; his whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you.” (A bath is for someone entering the Christian Faith, it is needed in order to be cleared of sin. … After we become Christians we must wash our feet/hands because we still sin.)

“Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. (We are to wash each other’s feet/hands… I beleive this means we are to hold each other accountable and serve each other. But we also must be willing to accept accountability and service from others.)

I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

It’s Time….

November 15th, 2008

With the recent election in the USA, I’ve found myself talking politics at church with people I greatly respect. When this happens, I find myself thinking about politics on a spiritual level.

I tend to believe that both candidates would’ve not been able to fix America. The nation would continue to fall with either one elected. However, I believe that with Obama, the nation will descend quicker.

What does this election mean for us, the Christians of the world?

I see it as a calling out, a challenge, a charge. It is important, now more than ever before, for us to step up and out of our own shadows so that we may live for Christ and boldly declare His name!

We are a generation of technology. Why not use this to our advantage? The people at Christ First Forums,Many Crosses, and Beantona have gotten off to a great start, but there is still space that we can use to spread His Word.

I plan on starting a site dedicated to this cause as well. Contact me if you want to help.
