Sunday Sermon … The Trinity
This is a very confusing subject, but we’ll try to clear it up as much as possible.
The Father and Son are in each other and are the same. (John 14:7-11)
Now, we add the Holy Spirit…
Jesus says, “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever.” (John 14:16)
Let’s take a look at that bold, italicised word…
The Greek language has two words that translate to “another” in English. Just like when we use the word “another” to mean something of the same type (another piece of pie) or something different (“I’m tired of this job, I want another job), the Greeks have two different words for that. … The Greek word used here is the one that means the “same.” … What does this mean to us? It means that the Holy Spirit is the “same as Jesus.” … So, using the transitive property we can say “Since God the Father=Jesus and Jesus=Holy Spirit, then God the Father=Holy Spirit.”
The Holy Spirit cannot be “seen” in the world, but He Lives with us and in us. (John 14:17) … We can let Him shine through us though.
The Holy Spirit will also make us feel convicted. He will remind us of everything Jesus has told us. (John 14:26)
Some people will tell you that the Father, Son, and Spirit are just three roles of God instead of three persons… Others will say that God only exists as the Father and will use John 14:28 to support that belief. This belief can be countered with something that should exist in every relationship, “functional submission.” Functional submission is when a person in the ralationship (a marriage, perhaps) submits certain responsibilities, privelages to the other.
I believe they are three divine persons in one divine being.
