Sunday Sermon … A Wide-Angle Sapshot of the Christisan Message

June 29th, 2009

Songs:

Majesty

Nobody Knows the Troubles I’ve Seen” – not quite the same version that was sung at our church, but still good. :)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Romanms 1-8
Really, all of this passage is pretty self-explanatory.
1:16-17 – The theme of Romans: Through the rightousness of God you can be right with God.
This passage can broken down into three setions:
I. 1:18-3:20 – The wrath of God: You are in trouble with God.
  1. 1:18-32 – You are in trouble with God because of your sin/wickedness/godlessness.
  2. 2:1-29 – Even moral people are in trouble with God. … Don’t judge others and condemn yourself.
  3. 3:1-20 – No one is good. … How humbling. … From an earthly perspective, some people are “”better” than others, but from God’s perspective, much farther away than us, we are all equal.
II. 3:21-5:21 – The grace of God: You can be right with God.
  1. 3:21-31 – You can be justified by faith in God/Christ. … Here, the words “justified” and “rightousness” have the same root word in Greek.
  2. 4:1-25 – Abraham is an example of justification by faith. … Many people believe that before Christ died on the cross, people were saved by following the law. But why did they follow the law? Because they believed God would keep His promises (as He has). They had faith.
  3. 5:1-21 – Justification results in peace and joy!
III. 6:1-8:39 – The new life in Chriist: You can experience victory over sin.
  1. 6:1-23 – You have been united with Christ. You have a new life. … Some people think that with the grace given to us, we can live however we want, but they would be wrong.
  2. 7:1-25 – You still battle sin because your old nature hangs on. … It’s like a chicken. You cut off its head, but it keeps on kickin’.
  3. 8:1-39 – You experience victory through the Holy Spirit. … Whatever you feed, it will grow. Feed thew new life and it will prevail. Feed the old life and it will prevail.
Find yourself in these eight chapters and take the next step, whatever it may be.
    Ok, Scott is our youth pastor….
    The showers weren’t really that bad….
    WWR was even more fun than last year!
    Spelled the name of the river wrong…. it’s Hiwassee. That was fun! There were a few rapids, but even more time for relaxing! :) … And steps made of stone are dangerous….
    When we left, I wrote some on a short story that I started on the day we left… it’s coming along. :)
    Group Stuff
    We had the best group, the Belly Floppers, for sure. :)
    We all had nickmanes for each other and everyone got along pretty well after the first encounter. lol.
    We had to make a machine out of ourselves. We made a toaster. I was toasted. It was awesome! I’ll try to get a video soon.
    We had a lesson each day with our group. They were all really good. :)
    Everbody Gets Together
    At the end of the day we had a worship service and a message. The music was awesome! And the message was just as awesome! … I think we had a couple of youth make decisions!!! YAY!!! :)
    The Greatest Day in History (Happy Day) is, in my opinion, the best song we sang there… and this video is flat-out awesome!
    We also had a campfire every night…. I like people watching. lol. … Also had some good conversations down there. :)
    Sunday Sermon …Be a Link in the Chain: Leave a Legacy of Faith
    June 16th, 2009
    Here’s this weeks SS. :) … The last sermon in this series…
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Majesty and Glory of His Name is a great song!

    He was Nailed to the Cross for Me sounded much better than this when two of our church members performed it this morning, but still a good song. :)

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Ruth 4:16-22
    The most important thing a parent can do is to pass on a Faith in God to the next generation. Each generation in a family is like a link in a chain. When you see a chain, each link seems insignifigant, but what if one link breaks… Then the links under have much harder time staying close to the other links above the broken one. Don’t be the weak link and do your best to make the other links strong.
    Maybe you’re the first person in your family to really have Faith. You have the opportunity to start an amazing chain for the rest of your family! All you need to is believe and follow Christ, then pass your Faith on to the rest of your family. … That’s what Ruth did.
    Ruth had Faith and she passed it on to her children who passed it on their children who passed it on to their children (one of theses was King David). Eventually this line would lead to Jesus’ birth! Matthew 1:1-16 shows the lineage of Jesus. This record mentions only four women other than Mary. They are Tamar, Rahab, Ruth and Urah’s wife (Bathsheba). … Tamar was Caananite. Rahab was a prostitute. Ruth was a Moabitess. And Bathsheba was an adulteress. … Wow. Anyone can be saved! God can work through anyone!
    Will you continue the chain? Or will you start a chain for your family? … Leave a legacy of Faith!
    Sunday Sermon … Our Kinsman-Redeemer
    June 14th, 2009
    Here’s last weeks …
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    I know I’ve used We Will Stand, but it’s just awesome!

    Song two, Footprints in the Sand, is a very nice song as well.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Ruth 4:1-14
    So, here is where Boaz marries Ruth. … To do so, he had to get permission from a closer kinsman. They met at the town gates with the elders and discussed the issue. Boaz informed the closer kinsman about the situation. … boaz told him that he had the right to buy back land of their relatives who moved to Moab about ten years earlier. Well the kinsman was all for that. But then Boaz told him about and Ruth and that she would have to go with the land. This guy did not want Ruth and turned down the offer, allowing Boaz to get the land and marry Ruth.
    This story teaches usabout marriage:
    Prepare for Mariage
    1. Follow Christ – He will lead you to right person
    2. Hang out with other Christians – Make sure the “pool” of possible spouses is composed of Christians
    3. Pray for a Godly partner – Pretty self-explanatory … Always involve God in any decision
    Get Married
    4. Make a life-long commitment – Guess what … That’s one of the main aspects of marriage
    5. Accept your spouse “as is” – You can’t expect to change your spouse, he/she is who he/she is and should remain very close to that person … After all, there is a reason why you’re standing in the aisle together, all dressed-up and ready to say “I do.”
    6. Establish boundaries to keep the relationship exclusive – Making the boundaries early in marriage will help you stay in the boundaries for the life-long commitment you just made
    After You’re Married
    7. Work and grow together – Help each other out, work out your problems together, grow in Christ together
    8. Be friends – Maybe it should say “stay friends” … Don’t get upset over silly things, enjoy time together
    9. Forgive – We all make mistakes … Forgive when forgiveness is needed
    10. Glorify God – The ultimate task for any Christian … Why not in a Christian marriage too?
    This story alo teaches us about our relationship with God.
    God is called our kinsman-redeemer several times throughout the Bible, such as in Isaiah 54:4-8.
    1. The kinsman-redeemer must be a relative (Hebrews 2:11, 14-15). … He must be a man.
    2. The kinsman-redeemer must be able to redeem (Psalm 49:7-8; 1 Peter 1:18-19). … He has to die. No (normal) man can redeem us because it would cost him his life. … He must be able to die and live again
    3. The kinsman-redeemer must be willing to redeem (Titus 2:14). … He has to be willing to die.
    Only one “being” meets all these criteria. That would be none other than the fully-man, fully-God Jesus Christ who has already died for you.
    Sunday Sermon … What Do You Need to Do to Improve Your Relationships?
    June 9th, 2009
    Here’s last weeks SS …
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    I couldn’t find the music with the lyric for this song…

    Hymn of Thanks (lyrics)

    Hymn of Thanks (music)

    Grazioso is an awesome Handbells song. :)

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Ruth 3:1-18
    1-16 – Reject the sin of passivity (inactivity). Take action in concert with God’s puroses. … So Boaz was inacitive, he didn’t feel comfortable taking the initative to ask Ruth’s hand in marriage, but for good reason. For one, there was a closer kin; two, she was a Moabitess; and three, he was quite a bit older than Ruth. … So Naomi comes up with a plan to get Boaz to marry Ruth. Naomi and Ruth realize the oppurtunity placed before them by God and take action. And the plan works because it worked in conjuction with God’s plan. … Our pastor compared this to someone surfing. The surf can paddle out to the wave and be swallowed whole by it and crash or the surfer can paddle out there, stand up and ride with the wave. If the surfer tries to do something the wave doesn’t like, then BAM! Call the Lifeguards!
    How do we know when to act and when to wait on God?
    18 – You wait on God when circumstances are beyond your control (after you have done all you can do). … Naomi and Ruth have done everything within their control to get Boaz to marry Ruth, now it’s God’s turn to work with Boaz and finish the deal, which he will.
    Joshua 18:3; Acts 22:16 – To wait when you should act is sin. … Do your part!
    What action do you need to take to improve your relationships?
