Romans 5:1-11

This week our youth pastor gave the sermon and did a tremendous job of it.

Paul has already shown us that we can have justification through faith, and now he shows us the blessings that come with living in Christ.

Six Spiritual Blessings for Those in Christ

  1. We have peace with God (v. 1).... We have peace because we have been justified by Christ. That justification has given us a new standing with God. No longer are we condemned; instead, we are seen as righteous because Jesus took our sins upon Himself.
  2. We have access to grace (v. 2a)... That justification we received also grants us access to God and His grace. Justification is the ticket that gets us into God's throne room. And that ticket is eternal, never ending, never failing. We have total access to God. We can always go to God, take anything to Him.
  3. We rejoice in glorious hope (v. 2b)... Biblical hope is different from how we tend to use the word today. When we see hope in the Bible, it is a certainty. Paul isn't wishing for the glory of God, but he is confident in it being a sure thing. There is always hope in God's glory, no matter what our circumstances may be.
  4. We rejoice in our affliction (vv. 3-5)... We don't look forward to troubles, trials, and tribulations. But when they occur, we can rejoice in them, knowing they help us grow and point us towards Jesus. Our Biblical hope in Christ gives us something to look forward to, even in our affliction.
  5. We have an indescribable love from God (vv. 6-8)... God's love for us is beyond anything we are capable of. He sent His Son to die for us, even when we were enemies of God.
  6. We have assurance of salvation from God (vv. 9-11)... The justification we receive through faith in Christ also reconciles us to God. Through it, we are assured of our salvation because our sin debt has been erased.
